  1. Most paramedics move up for the pay raise a RN receives and mostly only have complete one more year of school.  To become a doctor you have to have your Bachelors degree and then complete med school another 4 years and most paramedics would specialize so another 2-4 years on top of that.  A nurse is a lot more achievable.  Most paramedics do not have a bachelor's degree but rather a certificate or associates degree in paramedicine.  I would personally become a doctor in the forensic pathology.

  2. I am a paramedic and I decided to become a physician.  I am currently in medical school.  I highly recommend this course, as it enables you gain clincial skills before they are taught in medical school.  MD's also appreciate the fact that you worked your way up and got some good exposure.

  3. It's a very personal decision that only you can make.

Although we work side by side nursing and doctoring (surely there's a better name for it than that?) are very different jobs.

Nursing involves much more direct contact with the patient. You have to be observant, because the doctor will rely on your ability to tell when a patient's condition is improving or deteriorating.

Doctoring is generally more thinking than doing, but that's a gross generalization. Some doctors are very hands on--orthopedic surgeons, interventional radiologists--but they still spend a fair amount of time thinking about which patients to act on, and which patients to pass.

I've known several people who started as paramedics, then went to nursing school and eventually to medical school. They all regretted not just going to medical school in the first place.

My best advice is to figure out where you really want to end up and going for it.
