Question:

Paramedic or Firefighter?

So I'm going to school right now to be an EMT and i was wondering if i should continue on after and get my paramedic certificate too or go right into my firefighter training. I'm kind of torn between the too

  1. Get your EMT-P and some work experience as a Paramedic.  Most FDs pay more for EMT-Ps and your chances of hire is more likley and sooner.


  2. I'd suggest going through the fire academy, first. If you can, get some experience as an EMT-B first. Going through your medic class will be much easier once you have some experience as a basic.

    Don't wait too long, though. You don't want to develop all the bad habits associated with being in the field and bring those back to the class.
