I'm on Parabolic Gold Seals right now but at Coast last year I saw a lot of people using the Paramount blades. Are they any good?

  1. Wow, I've heard parabolic blades are tough to get used to, so kudos to you!  I'm thinking about getting Paramount blades, too.  I've heard they're really light and they do last a really long time.  They aren't made out of the same stuff normal blades are, but I think all the fun colors they come in is another plus!  But I don't know, I have MK blades right now and my coach always says not to switch blades or style unless it's absolutely needed.  I don't know if paramount makes parabolic models, so you might have to get used to skating all over again because I've heard switching back to normal blades is hard.

  2. I have never skated on them, but know several who have and they love them.

Very light weight and the sharpenings last a long time!

  3. Some people really like them and others really hate them.  I think they look cool cause you can get them in different colors.  I suggest going to a pro shop or some other store that specializes in skates and asking them if it would be possible to test out a pair so that you can see if you like them or not.  I've heard of the color chipping off the colored ones sometimes though, so that's not really a good thing.  I personally like my good old regular blades.

  4. Paramounts are very lightweight but they differ in two major ways to your current blades.  They do not make a Parabolic version.  The toe-pick is similar to a Pattern 99 and therefore is bigger than your Gold Seal toepick.  Both are a 8 foot rocker radius.

As a coach, someone who has skated on Paramounts and MK Phantoms, and works in a pro shop, I would NOT recommend the change.  The transition from Parabolic Gold Seals to Paramounts could really suck for you between the change in toepick and back to a traditionally shaped blade.  The only gain is the fact that Paramounts would be substantially lighter weight especially since Gold Seals have a solid sole plate.

As cool as Paramounts are, stay with the Gold Seals.  I do think Paramounts are a good blade but not for you.
