Question:

Paranoid about drowning?

I'm 16 and I don't know how to swim. I've gone to the pool about 10 times, and still haven't learned (though I hadn't really been trying). I'm a little paranoid about drowning, but I really need to learn to graduate from high school. I can't get lessons now, because classes are closed. I'd like to get to the pool tomorrow and actually try, but I wouldn't have anyone with me. Is this safe? What if I inhale some water? If anyone has some tips on how to keep water out of my nose and mouth, or any sort of insight on this, I'd appreciate it.

  1. If you inhale water.. you will cough it back out... If you even TRY to attemt to drown yourself your body will fight it... So dont worry to much !

Try to learn swimming in the low end of the pool... and dont care about your age, but learn.. dont think to much about... just go for it 100% even if it is for a day...

Because swimming is fun when you get the hang of it... Like pool parties and Girls and boys in swimwear spashing eachother.. don't miss out !

  2. hi

you could learn to hold yourself above water easily and safely

first, go to the shallow end of a pool where you can touch easily and just curl up your legs so your not touching the ground.

second, move your arms around and kick your legs to keep yourself afloat.

when you get the hang of this go deeper in the pool once you keep yourself afloat practise swimming styles eg freestyle.

if you struggle just keep yourself afloat and then try again.

    thats how i learnt

    good luck

  3. Start out were you are still able to stand then just sit on your knees then swim around. That way you can stand up if you get nervous.

Then when you get comfortable with that find a friend that you really trust and have them go with you out in the deep end and swim around there.

You could also try finding out who one of the swim instructor are in you community and they asking if they would give you private lessons since you missed them this year.

    Good Luck and God Bless

  4. If you can't swim, it's absolutely NOT SAFE to be alone in the pool. You may drown even without being fully submerged by inhaling water.

You may not like my answer, but you really must learn swimming from someone who knows how. If you are really desperate for time and the classes are closed, try to get a qualified coach to give you private lessons.
