HOT: Dark Age superstitions that surround Ouija boards, witchcraft (black and white), Angels, Demons, Religion, Wiccan and Pagan rituals, fairy dust and pixies.

NOT: Logic of any kind.

ectoplasm used to be hot (like a hundred years ago), now it's comedy movie material. Bending spoons was hot, now it's a hack gag.  I think you're right there's a trend toward more gadgets and more high-tech mysticism.
