Paranormal Investigation?

I haven't had much luck with this question, but does ANYONE know if you need to be licensed or certified to be a paranormal investigator and have a organization? If anyone has ANY clue, please let me know.

No, you don't have to be licensed or certified. You should probably take a few classes on psychology so you'll know how to deal with people, and also have a better understanding of how the mind works and can play tricks on you. While a good paranormal investigator does believe in the things that he or she is investigating and keeps an open mind, they also must have a healthy dose of skepticism and will usually be able to explain away the vast majority of so-called "hauntings". The  cases where things just can't be explained as the house creaking or pipes banging or hallucinations, etc., are rare, but they will make all your time and money investments worthwhile.

Like someone else already mentioned, I would visit the TAPS website. They have an article or two on getting started as a paranormal investigator.

no but it helps in Canada to have a security liscence. then they know you wont steal anything. Other than that our group just tries to be as professional as possible, and collect data as scientifically as possible.

There is nothing to certify you *in*.  Anyone can walk around with a camera and a tape recorder.  You can do it day or night.

No, there is no organization which accredits, licenses or otherwise certifies paranormal investigators. None at all.

If you want to be a paranormal investigator, then you are one, it's that simple. However, projecting a professional image, developing a reputation and developing an effective methodology for working with frightened people is a different matter. That takes time, experience and skill. There are plenty of unprofessional, ill-mannered and ill-equipped paranormal investigators out there already. Don't be one of them.

And if I may interject my own beliefs here, don't be a paranormal investigator that automatically leaps to ghost explanations for anything. The best service you can give your customers is to show them that whatever they are experiencing can be explained naturally and/or psychologically. That's the best method you'll ever find to make ghosts "go away".

I belong to an excellent Paranormal Investigation Group and the answer to your question is no you do not have to be certified.  Our group is getting so well known now that the City of Ann Arbor, Michigan wants us to be on a list for the Ann Arbor Chamber of Commerce which we have already done. It is kind of cool as they sought us out.  And, we are not having to be certified.  The only thing we do have to have is a Bank Account for donations because we are a non-profit organization.  The only thing we are getting from Ann Arbor is card saying we belong to this City Board of Commerce so when we go to the police to tell them we will be in a certain area or an empty house they don't show up with guns ready to shoot us.  That card is just for our protection from the Ann Arbor Police.

No you do not need any license or schooling.  Anyone can call them self a ghost hunter/ paranormal investigator.  

But unless  you have a lot of experience you could get laughed out of the place or worse yet bring something home with you, like a demon.

You need to find some people to work with until you feel good about your skills, then move out on your own.

If you are not at least psychic or sensitive, and had some paranormal background,  you'll need some education from others.

I come from a long line of psychics, astrologers, and  sensitives. I'm age 56, been around this all my life and working with a local investigation group, and would not call my self an paranormal investigator out side of the group.  Everyone brings different talents to the group and you need to develop you talents first.  The rest will just happen.

License is not required. Certification only means that you have spent money to learn the methods and theories of the people offering the certification. Paranormal investigation is not something you can make a living at unless you know how to market yourself and create a club and charge members to join and create a website and sell t shirts mugs etc with your club logo on it and  hold seminars and charge people $25.00 and up to hear you talk about your ideas and sell copies of photos and videos of your ghost hunts. You also need to create a home study course to offer people who want to become certified by you.

In my opinion the IGHS is the only large ghost organization I can recommend although there are literally dozens perhaps hundreds.  The IGHS does offer certification but you can learn most of what they teach by reading their free articles.

I choose them because their theories are more in line with the facts of ghosts according to my personal experience.

Paranormal investigators and ghost hunters are just people who have an interest in ghosts and learn the so called scientific way to hunt for them. Nothing more. they are not scientists and follow no known science.

There is however parapcychologists who are real scientist but they concentrate on esp and psychic pnenomena and not ghosts, but many amatuer ghost hunters like to call themselves parapsychologists because it sounds scientific.  You must use caution not to get caught up in the deceptive practices of modern ghost hunters.

It can be a rewarding and enjopyable hobby, just beware of the deception. Be leary of ghost hunters who claim to be professionals, this is one of the deceptions. Legally they can get away with this because if you earn anything doing something you can call yourself a professional.
