Paranormal/Supernatural Skeptics?

Question

All of you skeptics about ghosts/demons and all of that supernatural stuff, why are you a skeptic? What would make you believe in them?

hi, im not a skeptic at all, im just interested in sarahs answer, id love to know more about what she wrote, but cannt email her, as she doesnt allow email, so im hoping she comes back and reads this...id love to hear more about why the lava rock edge around it, and what happens when you wrap it in a ti leaf to sit on the wall...then what does happen in the next few days...im interested because of an experience i had many years ago with digging up dirt from a very old burial site in italy....hope SARAH comes back and reads this message, and shares more of the story with us

I don't think not believing something because you haven't experienced it is actually a negative thing. It's a common sense thing.

We each have our own beliefs which are based on our own experiences.

Some people know things because they've experienced them, some people believe in things based on their own interpretation of evidence, some people are not sure, some people do not believe but are open to it, and some people do not believe and are not open to it at all.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with any of these scenarios. When is does go wrong is if people have expectations that others should share there views, whether for or against.

A person will believe things when they experience them themselves.

I'm pasting a link below of a similar question asked a short while ago.

Someone described an event and sprinkled it with supernatural overtones.  Each "believer" then added to the events, providing a detail NOT included in the original event.  It's fascinating to see each person build on the previous story.

At the bottom, I posted my response; I found a video of the event they were talking about.  There wasn't a thing about it that delved into the realm of spirits and the netherworld.  

I found it interesting that the questioner asked the question to skeptics, then accepted as the "Best Answer" the person who added the wildest "facts" to the story.  (It became a competition almost among the true believers)

Imagination runs wild!  I used to be a true believer until I recognized this story telling phenomena

Anyone that wants proof, go to Hawaii and visit a grave type cemetery . One that has a curb size lava rock edge around it. Not the fancy ones in the city.

Then do not bring a lava rock wrapped in a ti leaf to sit on the wall.

See how things go for you in the next few days.

I'm not a skeptic because I've had too many experiences.

But I would like to tell Mr. Wushuboy that I've developed an EVP filter which fits over the microphone like a wind filter, and effectively filters out all audio caused by ghost, spirits, specters, or other supernatural entity. I'm in the process of getting it patented so I can't discuss it any further here. But I can say that it is 100% effective.

as an investigator, I am a skeptical believer. I have experienced and witnessed things that have been very hard to explain. But I wont completely go to the full blown believer side until I get a crystal clear EVP and or a pic/video, with a ghost waving and making funny faces at me point blank. Seriously, something very concrete as evidence goes I cant find an elplanation for.

Edit: Well until I can eliminate outside interference, your not going to get me to jump on the bandwagon. I have been doing this for about 8 years now, so I have heard a few, but I have never heard one yet make a coherent sentence. If the ghost is real and trying to talk to me, I would think it could muster more than two or three sketchy words

I need evidence to accept a claim. The more unlikely or fantastic the claim is, the more evidence I need before I am going to think it is credible. So far, the evidence for ghosts and demons barely rises above the level of hearsay and subjective experience.

As I've stated before, what makes me a skeptic is primarily due to the fact that I've never had an experience for which I couldn't find a natural explanation.  Furthermore, many people who are true believers *just know* ghosts and spirits are real.  This is a position that is in no way based on empirical evidence and which is in every way based on a personal philosophy of how this person sees the world around him/her.  If you don't believe me ask around.  Many people who believe in ghosts have never seen one.  Now why would that be?

If there are as many ghost/spirit hauntings as have been claimed I would think there would be some sort of evidence available, but there isn't.  All evidence for ghosts is nothing more than anecdotal.  Many sightings occur right before or right after sleep when a person is not fully conscious.  Many other sightings have a natural explanation as well.  (Don't even get me started on EVPs and orb photos.)

I believe many people have genuine experiences which they honestly believe are paranormal in nature.  I do not discount the possibility, however remote, that some elements currently known as paranormal will cross over into the normal after further research.  As it is all things paranormal or supernatural are called that not because of the amount of supporting evidence but because of the *lack* of such evidence.

I will remain open-minded about possibilities, but not so much as to refuse to acknowledge the reality of the probabilities that paranormal and supernatural phenomena are indeed real.

If ghosts are communicating they're doing a really lousy job of it.  Microphones are all over TV where they could manifest themselves to millions to get their message out not to mention the jillions of surveilance cameras running constantly all over the world.  Considering how many people are dead since the beginning of time, we should be running into ghosts constantly and they should be downright hard to avoid.

I have seen no recorded proof of such things. If such things existed outside the realm of imagination, science would have proven it long ago, as well as the mechanism that allows one to exist outside of ones body.

EVPs of course are fake. Why wouldn't we occasionally pick up EVPs when we are doing other things like video taping the news? or weddings? or recording in a recording studio? The only people who pick up EVPs are ghost hunters who are actually trying to pick them up. Do ghosts not talk to anyone who is not a certified ghost hunter? Do they think the rest of us are unworthy of thier chatter?

Why do they not have a Ghost Screen for my microphone to make sure I filter out the ghosts. I can get a wind screen.
