Question:

Paraphrasing in APA Style Format?

I've written a 12 page essay and my professor handed back my paper saying I need to, in APA style, paraphrase each of my body paragraphs.

I'm not exactly sure what he means by this.

  1. I'm not certain about the APA style part but he could just mean that he wants you to paraphrase what you have said in each part  by saying what you have said already, but more clearly and concisely. This would cut down the length of your essay if this is what he is concerned about. Had a look around but the only helpful links I have found are how to paraphrase which I'm sure you already know. Good luck (:

  2. TO PARAPHRASE is to restate the original author in other words, most often your own.  Usually about the same length or same number of words as the original source, a PARAPHRASE is a restatement of an author's words in a simplified version or in the vocabulary of the person writing the PARAPHRASE. Think of it as a type of translation from a technical or highly specialized vocabulary to a more familiar and more accessible style. PARAPHRASES are especially helpful for dealing with some journal articles.

APA guidelines require that the writer give credit for ALL information whether it be a direct quote or a paraphrase.

Generally, you are required to give the following information: author, year of publication, and page number for any direct quote. For PARAPHRASES, you are only required to give the author and year of publication, though it is suggested that you also provide the page number if it will help the reader locate the relevant information. You should use p. (or pp. for multiple pages) before the page numbers in in-text citations.

Of course, this assumes that the works paraphrased are also listed in your References section.
