Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew was delighted by last night’s 3-0 victory over Wigan Athletic in the Premier League.
This marks the first win in 5 games for the Magpies, who had been on a run of 4 successive defeats going into the Wigan clash at St. James’ Park.
The club had a horrible November, failing to win any of their games. The club dropped down to the bottom half of the league table, and struggled to get results and find their rhythm in games.
Manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew admitted that his team were not performing as expected, and would have to work harder if they wanted to improve and move up the table. After last season’s impressive 5th place finish, it was surprising to see Newcastle perform
so poorly and below par this season.
The club had once been favourites for a top 4 finish, but it looked like it would be in for a relegation battle. Pardew had himself admitted that if his players were unable to get results in the next games, they will have to fight for top flight survival.
However, last night’s game was a welcome change of mood and feelings as Newcastle managed a 3-0 victory over the visitors. Wigan Athletic had conceded a penalty in the 12th minute, and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Maynor-Figueroa-c25071 was shown a red card by the referee.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Demba-Ba-c10812 stepped up to take the penalty, and then shortly added another goal. Substitute and summer signing Gael Bigirimana scored a stunner long range effort to round up the 3 points for Alan Pardew, who visibly looked delighted and relieved.
Speaking to reporters after the game, the manager said:
“It’s been difficult for the players and the staff. We’ve had so many knocks with injuries – game after game – and it was nice to get a break and it was a break.”
“We’ve had to work very hard for that win. It’s been four defeats in a major football city and that puts a lot of pressure on us.”
“The pressure was building, we had a lot of criticism which I thought was unfair and we've had to accept that, and yet our fans were with us tonight from the off. We were all over Wigan, and we deserved to take the lead."
