Newcastle United manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew has admitted that the club has made no significant progress in trying to secure its transfer targets for the next season.
The Magpies have been linked with a number of up and coming players, with Lille’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Douglas-c11600 among the more prominent names. Pardew has however admitted his frustration at the lack of transfer activity and revealed that the ‘finance
side’ of the dealings was the main hindrance.
The 51-year old manager was a shock appointment last season following the sacking of former manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chris-c9006 Hughton. Hughton had led Newcastle to Premier League promotion and is widely regarded as one of the most likeable managers in English football, which
is why his removal was received with so much surprise.
Pardew took no time to settle in, and led Newcastle to an impressive fifth place finish in the English top flight. He was named as manager of the season by many as Newcastle defied expectations and qualified for Europa League football.
The club’s inclusion in the European tournament is one of the major reasons why Pardew is looking to add fresh faces to the Magpies squad. The manager will require depth in squad and more players to choose from as Newcastle prepare for what could be their
most challenging season ever.
FC Twente’s Brazilian centre-back Douglas and Lille’s French right-back Mathieu Debuchy have been strongly linked with the Magpies, with many claiming that the latter will move to Tyneside by the end of this month. Pardew however maintains that the club
has made no significant progress in its transfer dealings.
Speaking to the English press, Pardew said:
"There's no real progress.”
"The two clubs need to make an agreement on the finance side about the players we're talking about.”
"Unfortunately, there's no agreement at the moment."
Newcastle had seen an attempt to sign former striker Andy Carroll on loan from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luuk-de-Jong-c22956, who instead opted for German club Borussia Monchengladbach.
The Newcastle boss will however find comfort in the return of star striker Papiss Demba Cisse. Cisse scored 13 goals in 14 appearances for the Magpies last season, and Pardew was full of praise for the Senegalese.
"I always intended to give Papiss a little bit, but I'm winding back on him more than building up with him because, as he showed, he's ready to go," he said
"He had a great couple of efforts. A couple of turns were exceptional."
