Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has urged his team to bounce back from their second consecutive home defeat in the league, and has warned them to avoid a hat-trick of losses.
The Magpies hosted Swansea City at St. James’ Park this past weekend and lost the game 1-2, suffering 2 back-to-back home losses in the Premier League. This defeat marks their third defeat at home, and has pushed them down to 12th spot on the
league table.
Newcastle have failed to replicate last season’s impressive form that helped them to a 5th place finish in the league. They have struggled to find their rhythm amidst injuries and suspensions, and have not exactly been convincing, despite managing
some decent results.

Newcastle will host Portuguese club Maritimo in the Europa League this week before they travel to St. Mary’s Stadium to face Southampton in the Premier League.
Pardew has urged his side to bounce back in the European fixture and regain their momentum before the weekend’s Premier League game. A win against Maritimo will secure Newcastle’s place in the knockout stages of the competition and Pardew believes his squad
must focus all their energy at the task.
Speaking to the press, the manager said:
“We certainly don’t want to lose three home games on the trot, which would be a blow.”
“It’s a big game for us because if we can win it, it guarantees qualification, and that’s what we need to do; get one hurdle out of the way and then look for our first win away from home in the Premier League in the next game.”
“They are the two immediate hurdles in front of us.”
The Magpies are currently unbeaten in Group D after four games, and look like favourites to progress through to the next stage of the tournament. Newcastle won both their home games and drew three on their European travels. A win will surely help the team
regain confidence and momentum.
