Newcastle United manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew was impressed by his team’s character following the 2-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea on Saturday, and says that his side showed ‘guts’ in the game.
The manager would have been disappointed by the result, especially considering how easily his side had defeated the Blues at Stamford Bridge last season.
The Magpies had cruised to victory against Chelsea through two brilliantly struck goals courtesy of Senegalese striker Papiss Demba Cisse. The forward scored in both halves, with his second goal the pick of the bunch.
Chelsea looked like an average side and Newcastle beat them to the fifth place, finishing their Premier League season on a high. Pardew had describe the win as one of his greatest achievements as a manager, and was looking forward to a repeat performance
and result this time around.
Newcastle were however, defeated as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Oscar-c28720 and Juan Mata.
The Blues proved too much for Newcastle and cruised to a 2-0 victory, courtesy of a penalty by new signing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707.
Pardew was impressed by this new look Chelsea side, and praised Eden Hazard. The manager said in an interview that he believes the Belgian will guide Chelsea to the Premier League title this season and will be the man to reignite Torres’s career.
Hazard stood out in the game and looked impressive in possession as he linked up with Mata and Torres. Pardew was disappointed with the defeat, but hailed his side’s character and said that they showed great character.
“I think it has been a good week,” Pardew said. “The fixtures we had are tough, Saturday-Thursday-Saturday – I think we’ve done well.”
“I thought in the first half we looked a little bit lacklustre,” he added. “We lacked a bit of energy. I don’t really know why. In the second half we were 2-0 down, but showed character. We showed the confidence to try to get back in it.”
“We had two big chances to try to get a goal and that might have made things different. I think we have to say we were second best and they are a good side.”
