Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew is happy with his team’s progress so far in the competitive season and is not fazed by Saturday’s 2-0 defeat against Chelsea.
The Magpies have had a difficult start to the season, by anyone’s standards. They faced Tottenham Hotspur at the opening day of the Premier League. The team managed a victory and three points through two goals that saw them edge over Spurs.
They then travelled to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Greece-c2908 for a tough fixture against Atromitos for the first leg of their Europa League fixture. This was a crucial game for the Magpies and they managed to hold the Greek club to a draw in a 1-1 score line. Newcastle had fallen behind
but scored an equalizer through a brilliant Ryan Taylor free kick.
Next up was an away game at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea. Newcastle had easily defeated the Blues in the same fixture last season by scoring 2 wonderfully struck goals by Papiss Demba Cisse. They however failed to repeat that performance and lost by conceding
two goals. Despite this, Newcastle fought to get a goal back till the end, and their fighting character and spirit were on display for all to see.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786. He concedes that Chelsea were too good for them, especially considering the big names that they had in attack. Pardew also hailed his side’s
character and said that they showed ‘real guts’ at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to the club’s official website, he said:
"With the two fixtures we had, if you'd have got two draws you would have been quite happy, and we got a point more than that so I'm very pleased.”
"We had no Cheick, which affected us. Anita had to play a full game on Thursday and then a full game here, so that was tough on him. It's those sort of things that worry you as a manager - that there was a bit of fatigue in there.”
"We were unlucky that there were other things going on in London and we couldn't get the Sunday fixture.”
"We have to just accept that. We got beat here, but it's been a good week if I'm honest."
