Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has backed striker Papiss Demba Cisse to find the back of the net more often, and insists the player is not low on confidence.
The Senegalese striker has so far failed to replicate last season’s electrifying form. Having joined the Magpies in the winter transfer window, Cisse scored 13 goals in 14 league appearances. This tally included the unbelievable volley against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 at
Stamford Bridge.
Cisse’s form restricted http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Senegal-c3001. The striker was scoring for fun, and was instrumental in Newcaslte’s fifth place finish in the league.
However, the player has failed to score in the league this season, and has only bagged goals in the Capital One Cup and the Europa League. It took Cisse time to settle in this season, and many said the player was low on confidence as he struggled in front
of goal.
Manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew insists this is not the case, and is confident that his star player will re-discover his goal scoring form in no time.
Pardew told reporters:
"We all worry and especially the media worry more about his confidence than he does. It's pretty sound, his confidence."
The manger is relishing the competition for starting spots up front since all his strikers have started scoring goal. Demba Ba is Newcastle’s top scorer so far, with 6 goals in 6 games. Shola Ameobi, who captained the side on Thursday against Bordeaux, also
scored their opener, and left his manager delighted.
"All our strikers have scored this week – Shola, Ba and Cisse have all scored and if I am honest, Shola is playing at the same level as the other two and he is in contention to start this game," Pardew added.
"That's great news for us because it breeds competition. Shola is always desperate to play. Our fans now realise how important he is to us whereas I think in the past, they didn't. He is improving as he gets older."
Newcastle will host Manchester United tomorrow at the Sports Direct Arena, with the former champions eyeing a quick recovery after facing defeat at home last week to Tottenham Hotspur.
