Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has hailed the impact of Demba Ba and Gael Bigirimana in the 3-0 victory over Wigan Athletic, and is hopeful of holding on to the Senegalese striker for the coming seasons.

Demba Ba stepped up to take the penalty, and converted it coolly, giving his side the lead. The Senegalese shortly added another at the stroke of half time, and Newcastle looked on course to a long overdue win.

Pardew hailed Ba, and hopes to hold on to the match winner for the coming seasons. The manager admitted that Ba’s clause, which becomes active in January, is still in place, but he hopes that the Senegalese will stay at Tyneside. Speaking to reporters, he

“The truth is that Demba has got a clause in his contract and it is still hanging over us. We have tried to negotiate but have not managed to do that as yet.”
“On a positive note, he has never looked me in the eye and looked like he wanted to do anything else but stay here, and I hope that he does.”
The manager also hailed the impact of youngster Gael Bigirimana, who scored Newcastle’s third and best goal of the night. He added:
“Bigirimana has a bright future, though he had only got the opportunity to play on Monday due to Newcastle’s current spate of injuries. It was a fantastic goal and something he will treasure for the rest of his life.”
