Newcastle manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew is now somewhat satisfied with the way his current squad looks, but admits that he may be still in the market for one last signing before the transfer window shuts down.
The Magpies confirmed their fourth signing of the summer as they finalised the move for Dutch midfielder and Ajax ace http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vurnon-Anita-c36486 yesterday. The 23-year old Dutch international has joined Newcastle on a five-year contract that cost the club £6.7 million.
The player was one of Pardew’s high priority targets and the manager is happy to have landed him. Pardew had also been in the chase for the evasive http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mathieu-Debuchy-c24682, Lille’s star fullback. Debuchy had himself stated his desire to move to Tyneside, but his
club were not willing to part ways with him. Alan Pardew also failed to acquire FC Twente’s Brazilian centre-half http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Douglas-c11600, and was clearly frustrated with his lack of progress in the transfer market.
With Anita’s signing, the manager can find some sort of comfort and be content with his current squad. Pardew may lose out on the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Yohan-Cabaye-c37423 and Cheick Tiote for tomorrow’s Premier League clash against Tottenham, but he can count
on the versatility of Anita to help his side get a result.
Speaking about Anita, Pardew said:
"It was pleasing. Ajax are a fantastic club and to take a player out of there is difficult, especially one of their better players."
Speaking further, he admitted to the fact that he is still looking to bring another player to the club, and said that if that happened, it would be the ‘icing on the cake’.
Having already signed promising youngsters Gael Bigirimana, Curtis Good and Romain Amalfitano, Pardew looks to bringing in one more face to the squad.
Pardew added: “So I thank Mike (Ashley, the Newcastle owner) and the board for getting that over the line because we needed an extra player. We might need another one yet, but for sure that has strengthened us.”
"I wouldn't mind it (the transfer window) closing now - I'd be quite happy to keep all my players. But if we manage to add another one that would be the icing on the cake really."
