Newcastle United manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew was disappointed with his side’s 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford, but praised the youngsters who put in solid performances.
The manager made quite a few changes to his side after the Magpies hosted Norwich City at home this past weekend in the Premier League.
The Newcastle side that travelled to Old Trafford featured the likes of James Tavernier, Haris Vuckic, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dan-Gosling-c9845 and Shane Ferguson.
Pardew also welcomed back club skipper Fabricio Coloccini and midfield enforcer Cheick Tiote, who had both been out of the team since the opening week of this season.
Tiote had suffered a calf strain in the opening game against Tottenham last month, and Coloccini had received his injury while on duty with the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Argentina-c2841 national squad.
Both players were a welcome sight for the manager as he looked to mix youth and experience in order to get a result at Old Trafford.
However, Newcastle ultimately suffered a defeat as they lost 2-1, with a goal scored by substitute Papiss Demba Cisse in the second half.
Pardew was disappointed with the result, as he believed that his side were as good as Manchester United on the day. Newcastle had their moments in the game, but were unfortunate to have not gotten a result.
Cisse had come close to equalizing in the dying minutes, but his brilliant overhead effort was denied by the crossbar. The manager spoke to the club’s official website after the game ended, and expressed his delight with the performances of all his young
players.
"I'm disappointed for the Club because I thought we deserved something from that game," he explained.
"We were at Old Trafford, haven't won here for 40 years or something, but we stayed up the top of the pitch, put them under pressure, chased them, harried them and created loads of chances.
"There were a lot of positives though. The young players were brilliant - all of them. Vuckic, Fergie, Tav, Bigirimana - terrific.”
"We played well tonight - I'm really pleased with us.”
The manager now shifts his focus to the Premier League as he prepares his side for a trip to the Madejski Stadium to face Reading. The Royals are still without a win in the league, and Pardew will be hoping to take full advantage of their poor form.
