Newcastle United manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew is looking forward to the club’s Europa League campaign and has urged his side to produce an impressive performance in the competition.
The manager believes that his side must perform well in the tournament as they are representing the English Premier League. The Magpies face Greek club Atromitos in Athens tonight as they prepare for the first leg of their play-off. Newcastle finished off
last season on a high, and were unlucky not have secured the fourth spot.
The club was the surprise package last season, and were favourites to finish at fourth ahead of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and Newcastle. However, fourth place would’ve still not provided Newcastle with Champions League football, as it went to European champions
Chelsea.
Newcastle will stay play European football this season as a reward for their impressive campaign. Alan Pardew was well aware of the challenge that this new season will pose as the Magpies will compete on four fronts. The manager was successful in holding
on to all his star players, despite interest from a number of big clubs and rivals from the Premier League.
Pardew also added a number of fresh faces to the team as he looks for squad depth to take Newcastle through and build on last season’s success. He is however not taking anything for granted and wants his side to give it all.
Speaking about the Europa fixture, he said:
"For Atromitos, it's a big game for them - we are a big scalp for this team, we are under no illusions about that."
"We have the utmost respect for the club and for the manager, and also the people, who have welcomed us today in a really lovely manner.”
"In the short time we have been here, we have been really warmly received, and I thank the people for that.”
"But we must look upon ourselves as ambassadors for the Premier League. We believe it's the strongest league in Europe, and we need to replicate that in terms of the performance we put out."
Newcastle face a tough week as they travel to Stamford Bridge after the Europa game against Atromitos. A win against the Greek side will be good for the team’s confidence going into the second week of the Premier League.
