In an exclusive interview with local English press, Newcastle United manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew has admitted that he’ll need better players to improve the squad as a whole.
The manager revealed that club owner Mike Ashley may have found his ‘dream manager’ in Pardew, but stressed on the lack of funds to invest in the Magpie squad, which may cause them problems this season.
Newcastle are currently struggling with form this season, and have failed to replicate last season’s stellar performances that helped them finish at 5th spot in the Premier League.
The Tyneside outfit had been the surprise package last season, and managed impressive wins against the likes of Manchester United and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Yohan-Cabaye-c37423 and
the deadly striker duo of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Demba-Ba-c10812 and Papiss Demba Cisse, the club was a favourite to qualify for a Champions League spot.
However, Newcastle failed to do so, but still managed to attain European football as they qualified for the Europa League. This season however has been an entire different story. Plagued by injuries and the absence of key first team players, Newcastle have
struggled to find their feet.
They also failed to make any progress in the summer transfer window, being linked to a number of established and well-known players but failing to land anyone’s signature. The likes of Lille’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Douglas-c11600 had been strongly linked
to the Magpies, but a lack of funds restricted the club from making any headway.
Currently, the club has also failed to offer new lucrative contract extensions to most of its key players. One such player is http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-c10193 Simpson, whose contract runs out at the end of this season. The player has not been given a reasonable extension on his contract,
and may exit St. James’ Park next year.
Speaking on the situation, Pardew said:
“The market’s very small for us. We want players better than what we’ve got, and it’s difficult. Right back is an area where there’s a bit of a question mark, as Danny has not signed a contract at this football club.”
He added: “We probably need another centre-back also, I think that’s pretty obvious. We were a bit unfortunate not to get one in the last window.”
