Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has set his sights on silverware after Newcastle got another result despite an overall unconvincing and below-par performance.
The Magpies earned an away draw at the Madejski Stadium against Reading in a 2-2 score line. However, the game was not without controversy as Newcastle’s equalizer came from an ‘accidental’ hand ball from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Demba-Ba-c10812.
Reading had controlled the game and dominated proceedings for the majority of the 90 minutes. Their high tempo approach proved to be too much for Newcastle to handle, and the home side deservedly took the lead in the first half through Jimmy Kébé.
Demba Ba however equalized through a scrumptious volley, which arguably stands out as the goal of the season so far. The player levelled the scores before Reading took the lead again through Noel Hunt.
The home side were leading deservedly, until Ba scored another goal and levelled the score line before the game ended. This time however, the ball hit the striker’s hand as it went in. The controversial goal was given, and Newcastle again managed to get
a result despite being the lesser of both teams.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew was delighted with the result despite the dismal performance by his side. Speaking about the controversial equalizer, he said:
“I’m not going to apologise,” he said. “But you have to feel sorry for Reading. They will give plenty of teams a hard time here.”
Speaking about his team’s prospects and his targets for this season, he added:
“I genuinely believe we can win something. I think we can break that Champions League position. We came very close last year, we’ve kept all our best players, our young players are coming through, when this team is fully fit we can deal with anything.”
Demba Ba is on a fine run of goal scoring form, managing 5 goals in his last 3 games. For someone who was reportedly unhappy with his role at the club, he looks pretty settled and content for now. The player was quick to apologize for his handling of the
ball, and insisted that it was not intentional. Ba was quoted as saying:
"I would say it is unfortunate for Reading but it is still a point for us.”
