Are parent's allowed to deny there child food, say if they already ate and they kept asking and asking for it, or they kept making more for themselves. Is there a point when you can say no?

  1. Over feeding your kid could be just as bad as not feeding them at all. I would say yes, after a while, enough is enough. Dont starve them though!!

  2. Yes, you should know your child and how much is appropriate for them to eat.  Do your child a favor that will help them the rest of their life.  DON'T LET THEM OVEREAT!

  3. Depends I think.  If the child needs the food for fuel because they're growing and very active then it's not ok.  If it's a bunch of junk food or the child is over weigh then the parents are fine in denying the child food.

  4. Yes as long as their nourished. You can't deny food for days at a time obviously thats neglect

  5. Yes, there is. As long as they are not completely depriving a child of food, it is okay. But if a kid is asking for sweets when they have not eaten their meal, or wants a snack after they just refused to eat, there is nothing wrong. Or even if the child has already had a second helping it would be appropriate to cut off.

  6. I assume the child has already been fed a healthy meal.  If so, why is s/he continually asking for food?

Could this child be experiencing a growth spurt?  My kids ate an amazing (to me) amount of food when they were growing.  But if this is the case, the big appetite should be temporary.

Is this child a teenager?  Some teens can eat a lot.

Is there some emotional issue going on with the child?  Is s/he using food as comfort or something to do when bored?  That would be an unhealthy situation that needs to be corrected..

If the child has eaten a reasonable amount of food, and you're sure they are not in a growth spurt, I would try to talk to them about good nutrition and suggest other things they can do besides eat between meals.  I assume this child is old enough to talk to about this, since you said they "keep making more food for themselves."

  7. Of course they are. Just say "no".

  8. If the child already ate and is no longer hungry, then yes. If they keep asking for it and are really hungry, there is something wrong with their bodies. I mean if you ate a meal then 10 minuets later you want more or if you are always thirsty,  something in your body is causing it.

  9. i feed mine at breakfast lunch dinner with healthy snacks (fruit and veggies only)  everyday. when they ask for food they are just bored and greedy i give them something to do then they are no longer begging

  10. I say no to my kids about food all the time. If I didn't they'd eat snacks continuously and never eat meals.

  11. Yes of course...if a child has eaten and is generally well fed...a parent's job is to look after the child and to make surte it soesnt over eat or eat the wrong foods.

  12. You can say no but.. make sure they arent truly hungry.  Older kids sometimes eat out of bordom but younger kids will want to eat when they hungry and should be allowed to eat.  Maybe make sure your kids are eating enough during meals and healthy snacks.
