  1. It would depend on the disability and needs of the child. I would want to make sure that the teachers or caregivers were competant and understood what my child's needs are. I would want it to be stable and structured. Many children with special needs perform better in an environment where they know what to expect and where there isn't "chaos." I would also want to make sure that appropriate learning goals were written for my daughter's age and ability level.

  2. Summer Day Camp for a 4 or 5 hours a day with structure and organization like school to keep my high functioning autistic daughter occupied and feeling calm.

  3. For my son with high functioning autism, I would want a program with a set schedule, with built in transition plans.  I would want some sort of sensory therapy (or OT) to help him keep his body calm.  I would want a speech program integrated into the day.  I would want a small adult to child ratio (like 1 adult for every 1 to 3 kids).  I would want them to provide activities that are at his level, but still challenge him to learn more.  And most of all, I would want the teahers/therapists to be well trained, and patient with my son.
