Question:

Parent Plus loans?

Am I only allowed to use a parent to cosign for a parent plus loan? My mom doesn't have the credit needed to be approved and I have no contact with my dad, who could easily get it. Is there a way I could use someone else who would be willing to cosign?

  1. The person whose information was filled out on the FAFSA is the only one who can apply for a parent PLUS loan.

A parent's credit does not have to be that good to get approved. (compared to a private loan)

For instance, this year Congress approved legislation that mandates that parents who are late on their mortgage (up to 180 days!) can still be approved.

If your Mom is turned down, you will assume the same status as an independent student as far as your student loans and you will be eligible for an extra $2000.

Apply for the parent Plus loan- what have you got to lose?
