My mom is a single parent of two. I'm seventeen and looking into financial aid for college. I am a minority. Does my mom have to use her cd's to pay for my college. It's her life savings. She has a low income otherwise. Less that 23,000 a year.

  1. Your mother is not obligated to pay for any of your college at all.... CD or not.  However, her CD is required to be your your fafsa application (in the parent section) on the question that asks how much she has in investments, stocks, bonds, CD's, money market accounts etc.

Again, she doesn't have to spend it on you (and shouldn't).
