What kind of parental control software you have?

My son is 4 and he just learned to type "toy" - I do monitor him when he is playing games in the computer but I am terrified that one day I will turn my back and he will google "toy" or find a very inainappropriatete.

  1. There are settings not only on your computer but on google to insure he doesn't see things you do'nt want him to.

Google has parental settings so it filters stuff like pron and such out of the search results.

  2. well you can switch to aol and get there internet parental controls or get the internet nanny

  3. I'm using spytech sentrypc AND it works very nice

  4. I just use the standard parental controls that come with Windows.  It doesn't bog the system down like several of the third party software applications do.  I have found them to be more than adequate in my case.  If they attempt to go to a site that's considered questionable, they aren't permitted to proceed unless I enter my password to override the block.  I also have google blocked on my daughters' log ins.  If they want to look something up, they have to come get me.  Honestly, I've found that I'm the most efficient parental control. I keep an eye on what they're doing when they're on the computer, restrict the amount of time they spend on it and have their computer in a common area of the house.  They would be hard pressed to go anywhere they shouldn't without me finding out.  If it makes a difference, my daughters are 10 and 12.

ETA:  To enable safe search on Google, go to the Google search page and click the Preferences link to the right of the box where you enter text.  Scroll down to the third section and click the button next to the "Use strict filtering (Filter both explicit text and explicit images)" option.  Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the "Save Preferences" button.  This will save the setting for strict filtering.  As for the Windows parental controls, I don't think they exist in versions before Vista.  To get to the settings, you can go to Start, Control Panel, then Parental Controls.  Everything on the dashboard for this feature is pretty straight-forward and easy to setup.

  5. I use Actmon. The wife and I love it. The 3 teenage boys hate it.
