What do you do when there is a number in parenthesis alone?

For example:

  1. multiply it to the number right outside the parenthesis

    aka distribute the 9 into the parenthesis which in this case is just to the 2..a lot of times there will be more than one term inside the paren.

  2. means multiply

    it would be 4+(5x^4+18)

    make it a good day

  3. exclude it or if theres another number in it add subtract or multiply, im taking this course since im only 13, they answer is

    4+[5x4+18]

    5x4=22 or sumthing
