Parents, Work, and School?

I just recently got a job at a grocery store. I spent my summer looking for a job and I get it at the very last day of summer. I'm only working weekends until next summer. The problem is that my mother isn't too happy about me working. My dad doesn't really care. She thinks it is interfering with my school work and sleep schedule when it isn't. I have aced all of my tests and quizzes so far. I get a good night sleep every night. I get 6-8 hours of sleep each night. When it is the weekend I sleep 8-10 hours. I have talked to her and she refuses to believe anything. So don't tell me to talk to her about this. It won't work. She just doesn't want me to work. She even bribed me. She would give me $50 every month if I didn't work. What the h**l is that? I'm not going to stay home every week just for $50. That won't do anything except make me lazy. Working is just making me more responsible. And also all of my friends work and their parents are fine with it. They are all responsible. What would you do in this situation?

  1. why would she let you look for a job if she didnt want you to actually work. thats really weird

  2. You are absolutely right! Keep working and gaining independance.

your mom probably has some fear issues about you growing up and slowly coming into ur own as a young adult. maybe suggest a trip to the movies with her, to sort of bridge the gap thats happening and to gently let her see she isnt losing her daughter.

  3. Then go do what you wanted to do! besides your parents can't do anything if you really wanted to do what you wanted to do!!! You have a life and who cares about what other people says. Besides its your life right? if something happens to you, you will get into problems not other people!! So if you want to do what you want to do be sure you get to accept the consequences of your actions!

  4. I would keep working my butt off and saving my money. If you can prove to your mother that even though you have a job you still get good grades, it shouldn't really matter. If she still doesn't like it, oh well. Get your paper.
