Question:

Parents, do you get offended if someone calls you a "breeder"?

Now I'm childfree and I rarely use to term unless a parent harasses me first because I never want kids (seriously never). And please don't give me this "Never say never" c**p.

But do you find it offensive if people say "breeder" referring to parents?

  1. No, but i think it sounds dumb

  2. In certain circumstances yes I do, a lot of people use it to be offensive and  I don't like being referred to like that.

  3. I've been called lots of names before, but breeder isn't one of them, and I've got 3 kids.  Calling someone a name outside of their given name is just plain rude.  Anyone calling names is an idiot.  Those who argue with those who call people names are just giving them a reason.

Be smart, don't call people names, other than the one their Mother gave them!

  4. i kind of would actually..because that sounds like an animal thing or something wrong..it is not my problem that you do not want kids that is your own problem you do not need to talk meanly to people who do have them nor should they talk meanly to you because you do not want kids everyone has their own opinions..there are other things to say and to me that kind of brings my kids into and right then and there i would get a lot worse then name calling..i think it is offensive to the parent and to the parents kids so i would find some other names if that is what you feel you need to do (name calling)

  5. I do only because I wouldn't think of calling someone names because they choose not to have kids.  Funny story.. my sister in law swore she would NEVER have a child.. called both me and her sister breeders because we have kids (me 3, her sister 2).  Now my sister in law, who would NEVER have a child, has 6 of her own.  lol

  6. No one has ever called me a breeder. I think I might find it funny if anyone did though. If someone wants to be immature and resort to silly name calling I really don't think my feelings would be hurt.

  7. It reminds me of someone who breeds puppies or something, so I just find it silly.  I wouldn't be offended unless the person intended for it to be offensive.

  8. Nope.

I think its a rather silly attempt at an insult, actually, and reflects far more negatively on the person using the term than it does me.  So, no big deal.

  9. nope

  10. Nope.  I never wanted kids...I had a career and money and an active social life.  However, I became pregnant at age 30 when my bc failed.  I know you say you never want kids.....but sometimes accidents happen, and you have to eat your words.  Trust me, because I speak from personal experience.

I sometimes use similar derogatory terms myself, usually when referring to some woman who has multiple children she can't afford, is uneducated, won't work, and lives off public assisstance.  I usually refer to them as "broodmares".

  11. I've only heard g*y people use that term. If I'm offended by it I just say "Well at least I'm not g*y".....(jokingly of course)

  12. For the same reason you don't want to be harrassed about not wanting kids, alot of us parents feel about being harrassed about having them. It's terribly annoying not to be able to go anywhere with our kids without a crack about being a "breeder" or having "your hands full" or the more obnoxious ones like "don't you know how that happens" or "whoa that's alot of kids, keep your legs together" I really think that it's up to each person to search their own hearts and decide when and IF they plan to have children and no one has a right to stomp on that decision with stupid and ignorant comments. People have reasons for their decisions and they shouldn't be on trial for having or not having kids.

  13. yeah i do actually

  14. No -- why should it?  I'm a parent, I've had kids -- I guess I qualify as a breeder.

Now, someone calling me a breeder -- that tells me a lot more about the person doing the name-calling than it does about me. :-)
