Parents, do you think this is cruel and unusual punishment?

This was on the news a few days ago.

A father found weed in his son's book bag. As punishment, the father made the boy stand near the high way, wearing a sign that said, "I like to smoke weed and get caught with it.". The father said he wasn't going to play any games and just think that its a phase; he said that he was going to "nip it in the bud".

Do you think this is cruel or would you have done the same thing? If you weren't going to do the same thing, what would you do?

i can understand the sign but standing by the highway's a little too dangrous

I saw something similar once, and i dont think that it is bad... it should teach that kid a lesson. They chose to do it and have it, they can recieve the consequences that go along with doing bad drugs.

Cruel and unsual? How about giving that father mega-fines for creating a hazardous condition next to the highway. The guy needs some lessons in parenting as well as safety.  What a jerk.

h**l no. I've seen several people who have done that for different things. If kids are going to act stupid they need to get punished for it!

I don't think it's a particularly nice punishment, quite unusual, that's for sure.

But hey, obviously he does like to smoke weed, and he did get caught with it, so it's his fault really.

Yep, I think its a GREAT idea as a punishment.  Maybe the kid will learn not to be so STUPID as to use pot.  Dumb, dumb, dumb!

I like creative punishments! Humiliation is one thing kids are so worried about and would most likely have an impact on them. As long as the boy was not in harms way I think it was a good creative punishment!
