Parents, if you know your child smokes, will you wait until they tell you?

Or will you say something to them? Becuase I'm not sure if my mom knows I smoke or not but I dont think she does becuase she knows I used to hate it when she smokes and she still thinks I do, and so she doesnt smoke around me. So this makes me still think she doesnt know that I smoke.

Moms know everything!!!!!

Your best bet is to tell her now, before she confronts you. If she has to confront you, she wont go as easy on you, then if you were to tell her yourself.

It's possible that she doesn't know since she's a smoker herself, but it depends on the circumstances -- my own Mom noticed I had started because I was doing it at home in my room and she must have smelled it. Anyway, it's not uncommon for parents to notice and not say anything. Sometimes they just drop hints, e.g., my uncle must have noticed that my cousin and I had started because he told us one day about how he used to run half way around the track in high school then duck into the woods for a cigarette!

Yes, I would say something to my child. My mom smokes and when I was 16 I started smoking. Believe me she said something!!! She would smell me every night that I came home. No parent wants their child to smoke no matter if they smoke or not. I am 24 now and I still smoke, and I have a 3 year old daughter. I am the kind of parent who wants to give their child a choice in life. So, when she gets older and she wants to smoke I will educate her about all of the harmful effects and make sure she knows what she is getting into and then we will take it from there.

No I wouldn't wait if I know they smoke already I'd just confront them about it because I might as well if I know they are. So relax I'm sure your Mom doesn't know!

i started smoking when i was 14 and my mom smoked so I just grabbed one of her cigs and lit up and thats how she found out i did

parents aren't fooled very often by very many things.  Smoking of any substance, legal or otherwicse, leaves a very noticable odor on your clothes, your hair, your body, not to mention your breath.  Not all the smoke tha goes into your lungs comes out, and the 'left-overs' can come out any time and betray you.  Since yuo clearly are troubled by this, it tells me that you are really feeling  very guilty about it anyway, so why not talk to her about it, and let her know you are.  odds are she already knows.  If she doesnt, she should, so jus come out and be honest  with her, and tell her.  it's a health issue, but more than that , it's a trust issue.  OK>?
