Question:

Parents, when you're out with your kids do you ever goof around & pretend to be bad kids or bad parents?

I was just at the store & heard a child being whiny to his mother about wanting chocolate milk. From the way they were talking, I could tell that it was a joke.

Had it been overheard by some Y!A questioners, it might have been great fodder for a 'what's wrong with society, everyone should spank their kids right now, just in case' 'question'. ;-)

My kids & I do this sometimes when we're out. Pretend temper tantrums (not loud or annoying to others) when they're told 'no'. 'Threats' to spank if they don't obey immediately. Sometimes we switch it up & I'm the 'kid' & they're the 'parent' (great way to reinforce, via role play, empathy for each other, by the way). Dad's the king of pretending to pout.

All done, in our minds, anyway, as a bit of goofiness.

Do any other families out there do things like this?

  1. Um, no we don't.  Why would you want others to have the assumption that you have whiny children?  Even if it's not true and it's all fun and games, it's not going to give a good impression of your family.

Having fun is great, but I think doing what you describe will give a negative impression of your children.

Also why give off the impression of being a bad parent?  And why do you assume that a parent who spanks is a bad parent?

Luvmy4boyz:  Thanks for your comment, but I don't hit my children.  :)  I do spank my oldest under some circumstances and I can take a joke, but I don't want my children to be thought of as whiny children.  Thanks for playing!
