Hi There, I have a 3 year old Daughter and I'm just curious as to what other parents feed their kids and how much exercise they get?

what is a typical day's food for your ___ aged child?

how much exercise do they do?

do they watch TV or play video games?

Is your child overweight? If so, what do they eat?

  1. I have a 5 year old and a 2.5 year old.

There typical daily diet consists of:

Breakfast is usually a bowel of porridge, or 2 weet bix for my youngest and 3 for my eldest with minimal sugar - just enough for flavour or two pieces of toast with vegemite or honey on it and a glass of milk.

Morning snax are usually yoghurt and biscuits - tiny teddies or something like that.

Lunch is usually ham egg, cheese, tomatoe, and beetroot on a plate.

Afternoon snack is some fruit or maybe a museli bar

Dinner varies every night but we make sure we eat vegetables atleast 5 nights a week and limit out takeaway to 1 night a week.

I'm not strict on the kids - they eat doghnuts and MacDonalds and drink milkshakes and that sort of stuff - but I am very very careful about the quanitiy I give them. Neither of my girls are over weight - both come in perfect for their age and hight. The girls know that if I say no, I mean. Both my kids generally would prefer a banana over a bag of chips - but would never say no to a milky way - both take water over soft drink any day.

The girls go to Day care 3 days a week and a fairly active their - they watch movies on the weekends and that sort of stuff - but if I think that we've all been lazy over the weekend, we go to the park for an hour and get some physical exercise.

  2. I have a boy your daughter's age.  He eats what we eat - mainly rice, mac and cheese, chicken, fish, peas, corn, pbj.  He doesn't like beef or pork (has a hard time chewing), so if I do serve those, I mince them and mix it with the rice.  He eats cereal or pancakes or waffles for breakfast.  Then he gets yogurt or milk for mid-day snack.  Then he gets the foods I mentioned above for lunch.  Another mid-afternoon snack (Sometimes I bake cookies but usually he just raids the fruit bowl).  Then same stuff for dinner.  He eats really slow (keeps the food in his mouth like a hamster), so he gets small portions.  He is normal weight but lately, he's been going on a growth spurt, so he is getting leaner.

We go to the playground a lot and we go walking/biking a lot too.  Believe it or not, he plays tennis with us as well.  My husband is a work-out-holic.  But, even when it's raining a lot, he still runs around the house like mad, up and down the stairs with the lightsaber, so he gets all sweaty and stuff.

He gets about 2 hours of TV/video games during the summer, but during school-time, he has to be in bed early, so he doesn't get to do that until the weekend.  He loves to read, so, he reads a few minutes before naptime and bedtime.

  3. i have a 14month old but she was born big and she is bigger then most she is 85cm tall and 14kg, so daily i give her

brekie - wheetbix no sugar just milk

lunch - ham sandwich OR cocktail frankfurts

tea - anything we have etc, vegies or pasta

    snak -banana , LCM

    drinks - diet cordial, juice

she gets two half hours daily out side jumping on teh trampoline or in her swing, then maybe few hours playing in her toy room and then maybe about 2hours dvd time,

    hope this helps

  4. You obviously only have 1 child. If your child is not currently overweight, is well and happy and not overtired then everything is fine. You are giving her good food options and activities to keep her on a healthy path. Just don't over do it, she is still a very little girl, let her relax and have a treat now and then, I'm sure you'd like to too :) p.s my kids have NEVER had fast food i.e. mac rubbish, but they are allowed to make milkshakes, homemade healthy burgers etc at home, I find allowing the kids to be involved in their food preperation lasts them a life time....my youngest is 3 and eats and plays well, but she also has 'down' time to put her feet up and just 'be'
