  1. My daughter is fourteen, and she's a lot like you... a really good, nice kid.  She's never asked for any piercings besides her ears... probably cuz she knows I wouldn't allow it.  I'm pretty conservative that way.  I just think tatoos and body piercings look kind of trashy, at any age.

However... I've sort of changed my mind a bit when it comes to belly button piercing.  It actually does look pretty cool (on people who have a belly worth showing off).  And if they'd been popular when I was younger, I guess I might even have wanted one.  But when I say "younger", I mean like in my 20s.  I just think 14 or even through high school is too young.  Why?  Because the purpose of a belly button ring is, of course, to call attention to your belly.  It's a way of saying "look at my s**y body!"  And I think 14 is kinda young for that.  Yeah, I know people see your belly when you wear a 2-piece swimsuit - and I don't have anything against that - but putting some sort of decoration there is just like begging people to look.  And that's what I have against it, for younger girls at least.  I just feel like girls in high school shouldn't be blatantly advertizing their bodies.

So yeah... I agree with your mom.  Why not wait till you're a little older.  Then you can enjoy it for a while, and then let it close up when you're tired of it (which you eventually will be).

  2. Wait until you are 18, by then the awesomeness will have worn off.  And - at 14 there is no need to be showing your belly to anyone!

  3. AT LEAST WAIT UNTIL UR 16. I HAD MY LIP PIERCED WHEN I WAS 15 BUT THAT WAS BECAUSE MY MOM ADN I HAD COME TO AN AGREEMENT. IN SOME WAYS I REGRETTED THAT BEACUSE OF THE SMALL GUM DAMAMGE. THE POINT IS TO JUS SIT ON IT AND MAKE SURE YOU PUT ALOT OF THOUGH INTO IT.

AND FOR THE PEOPLE WHO COMPLAIN ABOUT 14 YEAR OLDS SHOWING OFF THEIR BELLIES, WHO CARES? AS LONG AS IT IS DONE TASTEFULLY!

  4. Just take your mum's advice. When I was 16 I got my belly button pierced behind my mum's back, that was when it was all the rage (it isnt anymore) and she was angry with me and said the same thing about pregnancy. Anyway I'm in my second pregnancy now and yes the belly ring part scarred, but so did the rest of my stomach, I never plan on exposing my belly button again anyway so it doesnt matter to me!!

  5. I think you should most definitely wait. You are respectful and a student. You really don't need eye candy so that people can be thinking about you sexually. You may ask for something you don't want. Your mom knows whats best for you and your belly button is not going anywhere. Wait unit you are 19-20 and you may not feel the same way. You sound like a classy girl and belly buttons are not classy.

Talk to someone who has ripped ripped one out before. Not so fun.

  6. I wouldn't let my daughter. I just don't feel that it is appropriate, sorry.

  7. Well, I think my daughter was 14 when she got her belly button pierced.

don't use this as ammo against your mum! I had my reasons: I've always believed that there are some battles you give in to and others that you stand firm on. Since it's my daughter's belly button and not mine, I figured she could do what she liked with it.

Keep on respecting what your mum says. Everyone's different, and I'm sure she has her reasons.
