Ok well we've all heard of the theory that violent video games are going to make a kid become a killer or steals car ECT. right? now i don't know about you but me as a teenager I think it just not true. The child has control I mean maybe it gives them ideas but it's not going to make them go out and kill somebody is it? I think that a kid have some self control if we didn't we'd all be maniacs. Now I can see how

parents say this about younger kids. I can see a little kid playing grand theft auto at the age of like 6 or so or even 10 for that matter and thinking this is how the world is. But then don't buy it kids can't go out and get Grand theft auto 4 on there own now can they just don't buy it for them if that's what they think of things. I myself now 14 had played a little of grand theft auto and other somewhat violent games when i was younger. My parents didn't go out and get them i just played them with my older brother every now and then but i don't think the world works like that.So even now i am a fan of grand theft auto but know thats not how the world works. So there it just depends on the child if there younger and you are going to let them play just make sure they don't think this is how it is just talk to them make sure they don't think to get a car you steal one or to get money you have to shoot someone which if there around my age i don't think you would even need to tell them but it all depends on the kid. So what do you think?

  1. Hi

If violent computer games caused violent behavior in children, then shouldn't violent TV programs do the same? It is my belief that anti-social behavior is caused more by the disintegration of the family unit. The fact is that children who already have problems use computer games, TV, roleplaying and many other activities that are blamed for society's ills as a form of escape from their family and social problems.

From reading  the reports on incidents of violence that are supposedly caused by children's use of such activities, the only thing that stands out is the utter incompetence and cluelessness of those people who blame society's problems on things like violent computer games, roleplaying and similar activities. People would rather blame someone or something else for their own shortcomings.

  2. lol, folks.  This is a good example of why playing video games is bad!  Even my seven year old knows the difference between "there", "their" and "they're".  You're 14, and you don't?  He also knows ETC (not ect).

  3. so..... what's the question? we have a rating system for a reason. the system is put in place so that minors, meaning under 18, can't get their hands on content that their parents don't want them to have. not that it helps at all.

referring to Grand Theft Auto4... there are so many parents who have their kids lie to them about this game it's not funny. my husband works for Gamestop and legally can't even sell the game without informing parents of, not just the violence, but of the detailed sexual content that is in the game. it's sad that there are people out there that just let the parent take this game home for their kids, some as young as 10, without giving them the proper information. as many as 98% of parents change their minds about getting the game after finding out what the content is.

as for a child being able to decide for himself. well... when they are 18 they can do that. so says the law.

  4. No, you're right.  Any one that isn't mentally disabled knows that they're just games.  I mean, what idiot thinks that video games are made about real life.  Here's how they would go.  I get up.  Now, will you make my character have breakfast or start the laundry?  Wow, that'll be a big seller.  Parents will do anything to excuse their lack of parenting.  And any kid that does go out and kill people or steal cars will do it regardless of where the inspiration came from.  He could have gotten the idea from the evening news!  I mean, why did they let that story about the bus in Canada air?  Weren't they afraid that everyone in the world would get on a bus and cut someone's head off?  Please.

  5. I think if the child is talked to and parents explain the diff between violent movies and vid games and real life they should be okay ...

Usually serial killers are a product of being raised by a controlling or abusive mother and they get "maternal rage" so when they grow up they hate women and kill ...

other causes are because their fathers either abandoned them or were abusive as well ...

also pornography at an early age will f*ck them up too (such as in the case of Ted Bundy)

    FYI:

Early signs of a possible serial killer ...

    *they harm small animals

*they are male and white (in most cases)

*they have an obsession with death

    *they harm themselves or others

ANYWAYS Video games are bad because they are a distraction and addiction that may interfere with school... social situations and family time ... yet I don't believe that they are a cause of Serial Killers or Thieves ...

  6. I am a Mother of 3 teenage girls and a CCMA

No I think it is a bunch of BS... Violent games do not make you violent.

If you have mental issues to begin with then maybe it may effect that person but to the normal teen, NO..

They classify 30 Seconds to Mars and other Alternative bands as EMO and if you listen to it you are dark, depressed and you have issues including Bad Grades.. All of my daughter's listen to this type of music and All of my daughter's have 4.0 GPA's so it is a bunch of bull and just the government butting their nose where it doesn't belong and poisoning the minds of the parents..I allow my 16 year old to play GTA San Andreas.. .

Two of my ex sister in laws would not allow their teen sons to watch South Park and the Simpson's, because they did not want their kids talking to them the way the characters do.. YET they would allow them to play violent video games..
