  1. I have three big dogs.  Nobody gets within ten feet of my house without us knowing.

  2. Yup, it's four legged, furry and barks.  Our family pet is a very protective watch dog (not to be confused with attack dog).  She will only go after someone if we give the command.  The worst she will do if you don't know her is bark at you.  She's a large lab/husky mix and she does a good job of alerting us when someone we may not know approaches.  She's a well trained canine and very protective of our kids.

I also have my Walther P .22 and my husband has his Ruger GP100.  Both are loaded and stay out of the reach of our kids.  That's our home security.

  3. lol you should see my front door, it had 4 locks on it. One just broke and I am not replacing it. And one I don't use as it is too high for the kids to reach if there is a fire. But they were there pre kids. I lived by myself. No I do not fear someone breaking in to steal my kids. That is vary rare (at least in Australia). I was more concerned about Cot death then anything else

  4. No, we don't. Honestly, those home security systems are worthless unless you get a VERY stupid criminal--all someone has to do is cut the phone line and the alarm system is dead, it won't notify the company or the police. We have strong locking doorlatches and a deadbolt on each door, and doors and windows are locked each night (including the second floor, just out of habit).

We also have a dog that does not look fearsome at all (she's a 5 year old Beagle/Australian Shepard mix) but she has a very fiery temper, and she snarls at anyone that comes near the house, even if they're just walking down the street.

Oh, and we do have a "modified" form of security system--a 12 gauge shotgun, a rifle, and a pistol.

  5. yea my 38 special and my husband's shotgun are our security system.

If somebody did break in they wouldn't live to regret it.

  6. Yup. It's a big dog.

  7. I think a security system is a requirement in today's society. There are those out there who view work and stealing what other's have worked so hard to attain. Thus I opt to have a security system (even though I live in a nice neighborhood w/ some residents who are in law enforcement).

The taking a child issue was not a great concern at the time when my children were smaller. However, this has become a point of concern with kids coming up missing - I noticed that the number of posters in walmart and other places that have missing children is rapidly increasing. I find this quite disturbing.

  8. There's a security system in my house, it's called a shotgun, and since the king of the castle law passed, anyone who comes into my house uninvited, well, they're NOT LEAVING.

  9. We have one and it's an absolute PAIN IN THE BUTT! It came with out new house and I've set the stupid thing off so many times myself, the police know me by name. (For they have to come every time it goes off). Having a baby did raise my worry levels.

  10. I got my Ruger 45 right by my bed (Yes I'm trained on it, no the baby cant get to it)
