Parents getting me a laptop or a tv?

Question

Because my sixteenth birthday is coming up in about a month, my parents are getting me a larger present. They said that i could choose between a laptop or a TV monitor that could hook up to my old computer. That means i could have a computer (with internet and a DVD player) plus TV on a 19 inch monitor. The TV idea would also be a couple hundred dollars cheaper then the laptop.

So my problem is, i really want a laptop, but i also want TV in my room. So would i be able to get a laptop that would be able to double as a tv. (And i have wireless in my house, and a cable jack in my room)

you could use the web or your network if configured correctly (such as with and internet recording device) There are also cards just for hooking up cable lines

get the laptop and order a TV tuner card with it, that allows you to watch tv on the laptop. It has a cable connection on the tuner card that you plug your cable tv cable into, it comes with software for your channel lineup and everything, even using your laptop as a PVR allowing you to record tv programs to your hard disk!

most laptops that windows vista support TV tuner PCI cards, that will allow you to recieve a tv signal on your laptop. im not sure of the cost of the adapter, but you should find it at you local tech store
