My parents won't allow me to watch my favourite show about cars- they say its for adults, because the people there swear once every two shows, and i'm even going to be allowed to watch M rated movies in five days! And this show is PG!!!!!!!!!

and i even hear more swearing at school

there is nothing wrong with the environment of the show( it is compleatly clean) and the dont give me reasons why i can't they just say because thats what we decided!

How do i get them to let me watch that show?????

  1. I don't see any good reason why you should not be able to watch that show. "Because I said so" is not a good argument. Perhaps you can invite them to watch the show with you.

  2. You can't.   I'm a parent so I know.  They are trying to instill their values in you, which is what parenting is all about.

However, there should be more leeway.  I don't worry too much about language, because, as you say, my kids hear it ALL in school.  I just guard against shows that portray s*x, violence, murder as something acceptable. If something is really racy, they ain't gonna watch it.

Is one of them more conservative than the other?

My wife lets them watch shows I wouldnt, and quite frankly it pisses me off, but I'm not always here

  3. Sorry, but they are your parents and you're not an adult. You're not paying the electric bill, or cable bill not to mention you are under their roof for the time being..even if you hear more swearing at school that is something they can't control, the tv they can. You need to learn that it's there house their rules, if the decision is ultimately no, then it's no that doesn't mean you can't still talk to them about it, just don't be whiny and give immature reasons. Maybe ask them to sit down and watch the show with you, so they can see it's not all bad and that you enjoy it because it has a hobby of yours, cars. Good luck.

  4. This is a true example of what being a parent means, just think, when you have children of your own, you can p**s them off too by making rules for the sake of making rules.  PARENTS RULE!!!!!

    God Bless.

  5. My brother-in-law owns a device that will let him record a show so that when he watches it, the device censors the show so that it will bleep out the bad language and other offensive material.  Maybe you should ask your dad if he would consider getting one of these things (it might be TiVo, I'm not sure) so that he gets the censorship he wants and you get to watch the show you want to .
