Parents name daughter, 'Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii' What do you think should happen?

I kid you not the child's name is Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii. In New Zealand a judge has taken this out of the parents hands and evidently renamed the child. What do you think of the parents? Of the right of the legal system? And what would you do if your parents named you this?

Omg, I read that article too......that is CRAZY. I can understand why she was embarrassed. I think that the legal system was right in doing this. Maybe now that he corrected this, parents will think twice about naming their children these strange names. If my parents named me that, I would be BEGGING the judge to change my name!

If I were named that I would also pursue a legal name change. If I were too small, I would hope a relative would assist in my behalf. I support judges that go outside the box with their rulings, especially in Children's Rights cases. I would have loved to see the judge give the parents legal names of "Stupid" and "Stupid's Partner"! Let the punishment fit the crime! :)

I agree with the judge. The story was pretty wild. They must have gotten pregnant while they were drunk in Haiwaii doing the Hula and thought the name would be a nice tribute to that night!!

Don't even get me started on some of those stupid celebrity baby names!!

I can't believe that these parents of that girl actually think this name is "beautiful", bleh. If my parents gave me a pathetic name like that, I'd change it as soon as I can!

They clearly should not be parents, you can't name your child like it's a game!  A name is for life for most people.  She (I'm assuming) probably got picked on at school or hopefully had some nickname so some friends could call her, but I think it's good that the court renamed her.  Can you imagine going through life saying your name was a sentence long. What were they smoking!?

If my parents named me that I would think there is probably something very wrong with my parents and petition to change my name.

I don't think a parent that would name a child a name like that takes raising a child seriously.  They act like it is a game.  Pet Hamsters don't even have that crazy of names :)

This could have been stopped quietly by the person processing the Birth Certificate; simply could have shortened it to Talula. This would have made the parents had to go to extra steps to change it to Taluladoesthehulafromhawaii.

The name is ridiculous, but in a free country, a  government has better things to be doing than forcing name changes on people.

WOW! I saw that and I was dumbfounded!

I think that's child abuse to name a child that!

I mean that's pretty much like thinking of your kid as a big joke.
