Question:

Parents of girls~~where do you plan to shop for school clothes this year?

Yes, I'm already thinking about buying school clothes! My oldest starts 2nd grade while my youngest is going into kindergarten~~both girls. My oldest couldn't care less what she wears and says she has "no fashion sense" while my youngest loves to dress in fun & funky fashions.

What I'm wondering is....do you pick out ALL the clothes at those ages or do you let your kids pick? Which stores do you prefer and why?

Please and thank you!

  1. At that age, my family picked out all my clothing.

JC Penny's is always a good choice for clothing and I think Limited Too sells a lot of stuff for younger kids. Then you have the usual - Target, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, etc. They're not expensive but sometimes the quality sucks.

  2. kohls

    let them pick

and u kinda go with their flow

and help them with little bits

  3. I get a lot of clothes from *OLD NAVY*, Ross Clothing Store, TJ Maxx, The Children's Place, Burlington Coat Factory, GAP, Baby Gap and other name brand but cheap stores.  I always look for sales... oh and J.C. Penny, and Sears have good sales too.  Also... I get new and used clothing from Ebay.  I love Ebay.  It's awesome.

  4. the thrift store

  5. I like Kohls for my son (he's 5 and starting K) and Gymboree for my daughter.  I like Gymboree because my daughter is on the heavier side (she's 6 and starting 1st grade) and the clothes are really cute and come in larger sizes.  They also have great leggings.

  6. Target, Old Navy, Dillard's.  I let my daughter help pick stuff out if she wants to.  I have learned, too that she's picky about how certain fabrics feel on her skin...example, too itchy, too hot, too this, too that.  I try to keep it simple, but I make her try stuff on usually, which she hates, but I hate returning stuff.  I really don't think at that age, they REALLY know what they are going to want to wear day to day..how many times have I let my daughter decide on something and then she doesn't want to wear it.  We had to start a rule...you pick it out...you wear it, so she makes more conscious decisions now.  And she pretty much knows my rules about what's acceptable and what isn't.  If I don't agree...I'm not buying it.

  7. I love Bonnie Toggs!!! My daughter is 5 and I find her a lot of GREAT clothes there!!

  8. Penny's

    Kohl's

    Gap

    Sears

Penny's has the best selection of slim cloths in my town.

    Also try store catalogs

  9. My stepdaughter is very tall and slim, and I have found the Target and Old Navy seem to have the jeans that fit her best.  I especially like Old Navy, because I can buy low rise jeans for her (she is 5, and not everyone carries low rise for that size it seems) which also helps because of the way she is built, if I don't buy the low rise, they always seem to be bunched up in the crotch area, which I would imagine is pretty uncomfortable.  The Target jeans I buy her are either the Circo brand or the Mossimo brand, I have had good luck with both.  They both also carry jeans that have the adjustable inner waistband, which helps alot since she is REALLY slim.

As far as letting them pick, I let her pick out some, and I also pick out some.  I also usually buy a few outfits from Walmart (which dont fit as well) that she can wear on days that I know she will be painting, playing outside in the sand, or some other not-so-clean activity because it seems that these days the school does not require the kids to wear a smock like we used to when I was a kid.  Hopefully this helps you!

  10. the store

  11. when my children went to school i lived on a budget, very tight one at that.so i had to be very thrifty,i went to alot of yard sales and thrift stores for their clothing and dont worry no one will know it only you.i bought all their under garments new but everything else was used,my kids were always dressed in name brand clothing, and they didnt know they had used clothing until they were in their teens.and now they are still wanting me to pick them up their clothing.

  12. sears is awesome also khols or if you have a kids deals around you.

have the kids look around the store and have them get ideas of what they want and apporve everything then you pick stuff out and ask them what they like about it or if they will wear it.

  13. lol well im a freshman but i follow my mom around everywhere....and she shops for my lil sis in 1st grade and my brother in kindergarten. my mom buys them @ the mall...they usually tell her if they want it or not..and she says yes or no. it depends on the price though too. we shop at the mall, for ex. gap kids, childrens place!, gymboree, tjmaxx and also if u go in walmart they have really good prices! and some of the clothes are really pretty!!!!!!!!! Don't pick all the clothes! once in a while..let your kids go shopping with you and ask if they like it or not...

    hope i helped good luck!=]

  14. I don't pick out ALL the clothes,

I let my kids see what they like, I'll show them some things that I like and we compromise.

I like shopping at department stores, Target, Kmart, sometimes Surf/Skate stores,

but I don't think it matters what stores you shop at for clothes, but I'm not really interested in spending a great amount of money either.

  15. Gap, aeropostale, hollister, american eagle, abercrombie, thrift store etc...

  16. i think target has the cutest clothes for little girls.

they are so fashionable and at a reasonable price

you dont want to spend to much money on the clothes

because they will grow out/ get dirty easily while they

are playing at school, and when they grow up. deffiently try

    looking there.

  17. I don't know where you live but I go to consignment stores:  Inch by Inch and Children's Orchard.  Macy's has great sales where you can get quality clothes for less and Mervyn's is one of my favorites.  I'm in California, by the way.

  18. that is the joy of Australian schools...school uniforms. They are the best thing.

But I would take the kids shopping if I was you to help pick clothes

  19. I shop mostly at Gap. I don't let them just go pick random things, but I hold things up and ask if they like them, or hold up a few and ask which they like better. That way they feel like they get to make a choice.

  20. I shop at JCPenny for my 9.5 year old. I also shop at Sears. I love Justice- but they are a bit pricey.

  21. Well, my daughter will be 5 soon.  I shop at Walmart and Target for obvious reasons- price.  And,  I pick out the clothes.

  22. gap has cute clothes as well as gymboree.

i think you should let them pick.

its important that they feel comfortable and confidant in what they are wearing.

  23. one word yo. GOODWILL.... that **** be tight yo. or dumpsta divin is good fa tha soul. me n my brothas doo it all tha time. or you gank that shitt. five finger discount work anywhere.

  24. Justice for Girls is where my wife goes.  Our daughter is 9, going on 10.  They have it all and they have sales all the time.  If you sign up for there mailing list they call you with specials every once and a while.

    Good luck.
