Does your child have home work every night and are they learning how to right the days of the week yet along with site words ?

My child's teacher is doing this yet my son cannot even write all the letters of the abc's yet let alone identify them without being in order . Does this seem kinda fast going to you ?

  1. My daughter did last year in Kindergarten. Sometimes it was big projects, too (in the middle of the year). Like, counting spider webs outside the house, identifying type of web and where it was found etc etc. Basically, I would do the homework WITH her and write everything for the first few months until she could. Even then, if she got tired of writing, I took over. What can the teacher say? They are FIVE. Gawd. Push Push Push.

  2. No.  Most Kindergarten kids know the alphabet and letters before entering Kindergarten.  Learning to write words is what they do in Kindergarten.

  3. this was my daughters 1st week and i dont think they r doin that yet but she already knows all that stuff because she went to preschool last yr.so she can write all letters and #s and knows all letters without being in order, however each child is diff.but yet he should be able to identify abcs without being in order.i would suggest working with him outside of the classroom.

  4. My daughter is in first grade this year, but last year she did learn to write the days of the week, the months of the year, the seasons and at the end of the year, she could read 115 sight words. That is what the more advanced kindergartners in our school do learn.

We had homework sent home on Mondays, due back on Fridays.  Sometimes it was a page or two of worksheets, sometimes it was writing and others it was short books to read.

If you have any concerns about what the teacher is teaching and if it's too much too fast, schedule a meeting with her and voice your concerns.  Good luck and have a fun year!

  5. the standards for what is required for children to learn has changed and that's what makes it so hard for children who havent attended preschool and parents who ddon'tknow what to expect in ttoday'seducation.

talk to the teacher and get a relationship going to help move your son along so he iisn'theld back. they are required to know so many sight words (words that the brain is better off not trying to sound out but recognize by sight) wright to a certain standard and so on before moving on to first grade.

    good luck

  6. They need to learn how to write letter and numbers. If he doesn't then how would he write in first grade.. My son was in kindergarten last year. He came home with home work once a week. And sending easy words book at home to learn to read. This is the time for them to learn to write their name letters and so. Work with him at him with his writing and reading has well. They will be expecting him to know 25 words by the end of school year. I think my school was expecting. He in first grade and need to know 75 words.

  7. yes they r learning those my son had spelling words math n how to write a sentence

  8. Yes

  9. Yes it does seem fast to me.  Unfortuently my daughters school is doing the same thing.  She has a list of 15 sight words she's suppose to know by monday (learn them over 1 WEEK!!!) And they already expect her to be able sight read days of the week, colors, and number (written in words)  I think they expect WAY TO MUCH WAY TO SOON now days.  I dont konw what you or any of us can do about it though other that try our best to help them and not stress if it takes awhile for them to catch on.

  10. My daughter didn't have homework on day one, she said all they did was learn their ABCs, and counting. But on day two she had homework, and I sort of expected no homework. It was copying short words. When I was in kinder, the only homework I ever had was coloring something.
