What age do you think your child should get a cell phone.

I think 16 is a good age.. but do you think 13 or 14 would be a better age?

  1. I think that if you can't pay for it, you don't need it.  The only exception should be a phone that is capable of simply making calls - no bells and whistles - for emergency use.  You need to be concentrating on school, not texting.

  2. I'm 42 and my daughter had one at 9. She didnt keep it with her full time until she was 11. But she had one to use if she was at a friends house or at an activity. She's 12 now and we have had no issues as of yet with the phone.

I do think it is an individual choice for each parent and child as no 2 kids are the same. When she first had the phone it was only to call us of course and she had to surrender it after each use. The idea was to break her into it so we wouldnt have any problems. I do suggest an unlimited text plan as they will use it heavily !
