Question:

Parents put cable service in sister's name. How do I handle this and save her credit?

Well I recently found out my parents put comcast service in my sister's name. This really upsets me because she is only 17 and comcast should have never allowed the service to be put in her name. She is the type of person that can't say no to how parents (and how many kids can?). From what I understand, she doesn't even know exactly how much she owes but it is a lot (probably a couple hundred).

My question is, how do I go about handling this situation? She WILL NOT do anything to get her parents in trouble which really bugs me. I'm ready to turn them in for some type of fraud. I just don't want to make any rash decisions. Since she is only 17, is comcast allowed to put service in her name? I am considering just paying it off and having the service shut off but I fear this will just happen all over again.

  1. Call comcast and let them know the situation. Especially the fact that she is not of age. They will pull service asap! They also probably won't bother with the bill either. Most likely so they won't be hassled with the fact they have minors slipping through the cracks. However if you challenge them on this they will throw the book at your parents for fraud.

  2. You need to call the cable company and explain the situation, preferably with your sister with you.  Have her tell them to cut off the service.  Since she is 17 the contract should be voidable.  You may want to consult an attorney in the matter if they do not agree to shut off the service and waive the charges since they contracted with a minor.
