Parents vs gerbils?

Question

how can i convince my parets that gerbils are good things and not just rats (even tho i keep telliing theem they are not rats)?? becuase i really want a gerbil and i have done way more than enough reasearch

i told my dad that i will pay  for the vet bills and everything mostly just make deals with them and clean there cage every week! tell them its a great experience of responsibility!!! trust  me im a junior hamster (rodents) expert!!!

if you ask me rats are much better than gerbisl BUT

tell them they hyave fur on their tails and are very smart.  (rats are smarter, just so you know <_<)  gerbil tails are no where near as disgusting as rat tails  (althoguh I find rat tails quiote wonderful :P)    Gerbils are also a little smaller and can live in a smaller cage than rats.  (not too smallm, please D:)  I've also read that gerbils are the 'best' cage pets.  Ill try to find a link for you

Just show them you're responsible and let them know that you'll take care of everything. They don't need to touch your gerbils or even look at them. This worked on my mom. She was dead set against them because they're rodents. I did my research well in advance, and showed her exactly what they were and what I wanted to get. I've had them for over 5 months now, and my mom has never touched them. I care for them fully.

If you've done enough research, you'd know that gerbils are social and should be kept in same-s*x pairs, right? Please be sure to get two of the same gender if your parents approve of you getting gerbils.
