Question:

Parents who don't control their kids?

We were at a play area today and there were 2 little boys (brothers) who were going around hitting, shoving, and kicking. Their mother saw them but kept talking and didn't do anything to stop them. I took my daughter and left. Why do some parents let their kids get away with that? What happened to "Do it again and we're going home?"

  1. I must say that I'm in your boat... but remember that nowadays there are all sorts of people butting into parenting.

If that mother would have taken her child aside, spoke to him strongly and smacked his butt, some mothers would have been just as upset as you are that she did nothing.

Like I said, I agree with you, but in this world it is becoming increasingly difficult to make judgements.

  2. These are the same parents who will be posting questions like, "My 12 year old is yelling and swearing at me. What should I do?"

A child who has been taught no respect, given no boundaries or discipline will grow into an adult who needs those things more than anyone else.

I could not disagree with the "parents do not spank anymore" more. That is such an ignorant statement.....which is made by far too many parents on this site. That is itself is pretty scary. Spanking is just as "popular" as always......it has NOT gone away, spanking is used by 90% of parents. Please use your heads before such ignorance comes out of your mouths.

  3. Well, I agree that it is annoying. I always tell my kids that those kids are "bad examples" of how to behave.

  4. Obviously they were allowed to do what they wanted as kids and just don't know what it means to love their kids.  Because lets face it, a parent shows love by setting limits and teaching good social skills.

  5. This didn't used to happen so much when parents believed in spanking.

  6. Laziness!  Plain and simple.

  7. the first answerer is clueless considering over 90% of todays parents spank. LOL

Sadly many of the parents you see do this ARE spankers and they don't want to spank in public but they have no clue what else to do so they do nothing while in the public eye and then once they hit the car or the home they let the kid have it. Of course there are the parents who just don't think it's a big deal and so they do nothing as well.

Just as an example, at the dentist the other day a woman's 2 yr old was giving her a hard time, he kept trying to open the door no matter how many times she said "no". so the receptionist locked it and he started screaming really loud. She turned and put her hand to her mouth  to tell him to s"shhhh" and as she did the boy coward and put his arm over his head flinching. The child obviously was expecting to be hit. We all know how that mom disciplines at home now don't we? She did nothing there though. It's pretty interesting. It also shows that what she is doing at home (spanking) isn't working because even as fearful as he was thinking he might get hit, he continued the behavior.
