  1. Yes, because it is illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to drink. Now if you're talking about advising their adult children, then no.

  2. if the child is over 21, the parents can ask all they want but it's legal.

  3. I drink, occasionally...maybe once a month on the weekend with some friends.  Anyway, I will talk to my kids about drinking and about doing it RESPONSIBLY and after they are 21.

  4. My husband and I were talking about this just yesterday.

We were at my parents house and alcohol is very much a part of any family gathering. My husband does not drink.......I do when around my family and on rare occasion at home. It is not a big part of my life outside of my family, who live in another state.

Well, my sister had way too much to drink and was acting like a crazy hammered person does. My 13 year old daughter was just staring at her in.........I don't know if her look was one of disgust or of shock! She is just not around this and we did not like her seeing this behavior. My sister is 62! She was acting like a 5 year old! She was very sloppy!

While I certainly see no harm in an occasional drink around children, I certainly do not think it should be to the point a parent being drunk.

  5. Since a parent would generally be over 21 by the time they were making this statement, then I say yes.  It is illegal to drink under the age of 21 in the US.

That being said, it might be a tad hypocritical on their part, but perhaps they would hope that you wouldn't make some of the bad judgment choices that are made while drinking.  Alcohol does tend to affect someone who is not done growing more than it would affect a full grown person (on average a young person doesn't stop fully growing until they are around 20 or 21).  Also, if you were to get caught drinking and driving, the punishment would be much greater than an adult.  My brother-in-law lost his license until his 21st birthday for this offense.

As a parent I will say that it is our job to make sure that you are safe.  Not knowing how alcohol will affect your judgments and abilities can be a very bad thing.  You could end up in a situation that you cannot get out of or kill yourself because you chose to get behind the wheel.  Parents are there to protect you, sometimes from yourself.

  6. Yes, because they are adults and are of age to drink so they have every right too. But kids that aren't of age dont have any right to drink and its illegal for them to. Its not that alcohol is bad as long as you dont abuse it, but its something that you should be a certain age and maturity to drink or else bad judgement happens. But I do have to say though, some adults make very bad judgements vvhen they drink to. so anyone that drinks should do so responsibly.

  7. Yea they have a right, but when they are alcoholics, they are setting a bad example.

  8. This has either got to be a joke, or one of the most immature questions ever....

Of course they do.  It's their responsibility to advise you.  It's the LAW.

You are obviously not mature enough to understand, so no way are you mature enough to handle a little drinky-drinky.

  9. Why should parents not drink alcohol in moderation when it's legal for them to do so?  And yes, they can still tell their children not to drink, since it's NOT legal for them to do so!

What parents SHOULD do is to model responsible behavior with alcohol, so that their children will learn how to consume it appropriately when it's legal for them to do so.    When the family goes on an outing, one parent should agree not to drink at all, and be the designated driver.  The one who does drink should never drive at all on the outing.   Whichever one is drinking should not consume excessive alcohol under any circumstances, certainly not to the point of getting drunk.  Drinking should not be an everyday occurrence in the home.   Alcohol should be stored securely away from children.

My kids generally see me consume a glass or two of wine on the holidays, and sometimes one beer at a summer picnic.   They know that it's for special occasions, and that I don't keep it in the house, or drive when I've been drinking.  Neither of them has touched alcohol yet in middle school or high school.

  10. Parents do not have a right to advise their children not to drink, whether the parents drink or not.  They have the RESPONSIBILITY to educate their children about alcohol, and the potential dangers.

Drinking is not bad, as long as it is done responsibly.  It can actually be beneficial for a child/teenager to see examples of responsible use of alcohol.    But perhaps an alcoholic parent would advise their child not to drink because they do not want their child to go down the same road...

  11. Adults can drink because it is perfectly legal, and they are considered responsible enough to handle themselves.  Do you expect them to refrain because their kids aren't old enough to drink?

I would say it's a little crazy for them to be telling another 21 year old not to drink if they drink however.

  12. Yes sir they do.  First of all, we are adults.  We are over 21.  We have the legal right to drink.  Second of all, in my house we don't get drunk.  We are responsible drinkers and refuse to allow drunkenness into our home.  Third, children are children.  The are minors, they are under the legal age of drinking.  If anything you don't do it because you are a minor and that's the law.  Adults are more likely (not all of them) to maintain self control while drinking.  Teens are not.  It's mainly about looking cool at that age.

  13. yes because it is legal for me to drink but not for them as they are children under 18yr old..

I have s*x but it does not mean my kids should. although it is perfectly legal for my eldest to as he's 16yr old.but the younger ones are under age.........

  14. Yes, it is illegal for children to drink alcohol.
