If your a parent and you make to much money to qualify for need based grants and scholarships how are you helping your child pay for college. Please dont suggest loans. Some of you must have come up with some unconventional ways to afford college. Thanks

  1. Merit scholarships. Have your child go to the financial aid office and pick up some applications.

  2. Your kid can get a part time job.  They can be an RA (resident assistant) to get free or reduced room and board, work at an on campus job like the library or the cafeteria or the English dept or mow lawns.

We bought a condo and timed it perfectly to be paid off the year our child goes to college.  He will have the choice to either move into it (its close to a couple of schools) or we can use it for income to help pay for his tuition.

    Hope it helps.
