Ok so i have a 4 1/2 yr old daughter who was recently diagnosed with ADHD. I knew something was wrong pretty much from the start she was not only VERY hyper but she has severe learning and speech problems. She has a hard time talking making sentences as well as other things like she has a hard time peddaling (sp)? a bike. I did some research on autism and at first i thought maybe she had that so i decided to make an appt to see a specialist, and within 10 min of seeing her he knew it was NOT autism but in fact it was a severe case of ADHD... so the doctor prescribed her some medicine called FOCALIN XR 5 MG i was just woundering if any of you have tried this for your children and how did it work? She had just started it today i gave her a half a capsul at 8 am then the other half at 12noon.. and i havent really noticed any big difference except it gave her the shakes a ittle bit. and now the time is 830pm and she is really really hyper .. any advice on this drug??

  1. To me, Doctors are so quick to give kids medicine to try and cure the behavior,All it is is a coverup like tylenol to a fever, give them tylenol but the fever is still there when the tylenol is done. Its a coverup,I would try to make everything a routine and set schedules and activities to keep her mind busy and allot of hands on activities to keep her hands busy.

  2. I haven't any information about the drug, however, I have been doing quite a bit of research on genetically modified foods, otherwise known as genetically engineered (GMOs or GE food). What I have discovered is quite alarming for the health of all of us! These crops are from seeds whose DNA has been modified to either create their own pesticides, or to resist the pesticide ROUND UP. Farmers are using these seeds that have NOT BEEN TESTED by the FDA but have been approved for release. Independent studies have shown several health dangers.

My own interest in trying to find out why there is such a dramatic increase in autism, learning disabilities, immune system disorders, allergies and respiratory problems led me to pursue this research.

I suspect that careful planning of foods may make a difference in some of these problems. I am going to give you some links in case you want to try diet as a resort to helping your daughter. We are what we eat, no?

I have had some health issues with no explanations, no cures and I have started an organic diet. Any food labelled as ORGANIC will not be a GE or GMO food, and will not have been exposed to pesticides. Also, it's important to get milk that is labelled as "hormone free", eggs and meat that is also hormone free (they add growth hormones to cows and chickens).  In the case of ADHD, I also believe that careful limits of sugar and gluten may also help. Corn syrup is in A LOT of our food - the corn is most likely genetically modified!

There's tons of resources online if you google ADHD and organic food.

and why has dangerous food been released to us? I was fuming - Watch this video

and if you are a HIllary Clinton fan, she may not be the "one" to help us solve this problem.

To protect our health, and our children's health, we need to put someone in office who is NOT tied to big corporations, someone who will bring ethics back to Washington.

In the meantime, good luck - I hope you will consider diet as a solution.

  3. I know exactly what you are going through.  At the age of 4 my daughter had learning difficulties and speech problems.  When she turned 5, she was diagnosed with ADHD, we started her on Focalin XR 5mg.  It took about 2 weeks for her to get used to it.  From then on, there was a dramatic change in her paying attention to her speech pathologist.  The words started to become more clear.  She started writing perfectly in class, before it was mainly scribbles.  I could actually take her into the grocery store and not feel overwhelmed.  She is now 7 and I don't know where we would be without the medicine.  The difference is unbelievable.  There are a few side effects but they are worth it.

  4. As with any other drug, it will probably take some time to start working.  My brother started medication for ADHD 2 weeks ago, it took about a week to see a difference.  Be patient, if you don't notice a difference after a week or two, go back to the doctor.
