I am a college student.

I am doing a study on Asperger syndrome and high-functioning autism and peer acceptance.

I also have a 16 year old son with Asperger Syndrome.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  1. I have known a number of young people with Aspergers syndrome.  The level of acceptance varies, depending on the personality of the individual with Aspergers, and how much the peers understand about Aspergers.  In my experience, acceptance tends to increase somewhat with age and maturity and if the person with Aspergers is able to develop some social skills.

  2. My son with AS is actually very popular in his class at school, but he doesn't appear to know it and he plays with his big sister and her friends at recess rather than all the kids who want to play with him. He has trouble getting along with kids his own age, but his classmates still appear to like him.

  3. My 5yr old son has aspergers and sometimes has a hard time with peers.  He's kind of aggressive in high stimulation times, and so he hits and pinches sometimes and other times, he cusses or calls names.  This isn't a great way to classify him, though cuz when he's relaxed, he is really friendly and quite nice when he's not over stimulated.  All the kids at his school seem to have caught on to this because they are all quick to say hi to him when he walks into the door.  This could be just small town school related, though.  He's greeted by everyone with a smile for the most part, from kids in pre k all the way up to the 4th graders.

  4. Well I am 13 and my little brother has auspergers and is homeschooled.  He is young, I think 1st-2nd grade.  He went to a regular school but he has a horrible temper and doesn't understand how people will react to him.  He also has trouble paying attention and is sometimes hyper.  He is usually rude or in a bad mood but can be affectionate.  So...yeah sorry if I didn't help. Bye!
