I am a type A person. I am a recent graduate. I have Master's Degree at age 22. I want to get things done very fast. I have been applied for jobs in the past months. I have been to many interviews with many huge organizations. Unfortunately, they don't hire because I am young and lack of experiences. Well, I refuse to work as an assistant since I am holding my Master's Degree. (I worked as an assistant to Chair for 2 years).

I plan to back to my home country. There are many opening positions there. They really want someone who is majoring in the fields and study aboard like me. My problem is I am very ego. I will only take management positions. I know it is wrong.

Please help. Any words of wisdom. Thank you very much.

Sorry, english is my second language.

  1. Congrats on obtaining your MA at such a young age! However you need to remember that experience gives you so much more other than school which provides reading, comprehension, math, and writing skills. Now that you have learned so much it is time to apply what you have learned. Knowledge is power but experience teaches you so much more! If you are a type A person then you know how to plan ahead... So if I were you look for a job that you could see yourself in for a while. The longer you are committed to something the sooner you will be promoted. It may sound a little backwards...but I promise it's true. You were dedicated to your studies so be just as dedicated to your work. Everything takes time...And experience is a valuable part of life. Think about all the experiences that you have learned thus far in your life that school has not taught you... But were a necessary part of life to get you where you are today. You have to get your hands dirty to understand your fellow worker...there is no sense manage a group of people if you have never been in there shoes before. Good luck!

  2. First off congratulations! My advice would be to do what feels right, whether it be staying or going back to your country.

Experience is important to employers, because a master's degree doesn't tell you how to run THEIR company. I would try and look for a position that has an opportunity for management in the near future.

    Good luck!

  3. Just that when a baby is born, they are born small, not big. They grow constantly and with time, they learn everything. Right age, right time. So, little bit of ego is good, but not this much. You have to start from somewhere. Before you are given management level positions, you are fully observed and tested so that you fit that portfolio.

On the other hand, why not start your own business. You won't have to work under someone.

    Good Luck!

  4. so at least you are aware if the problem.  Get outside of your ego and learn from the trenches.  You will earn more respect if you are humble about it.  Many many successful people started right there
