Hi there,

my dad is a medical doc and my mom is a former nurse.

all of myy friends have skateboards and i always ride theirs, so i ask them if i can get one. dad said no. my mom isnt as against it, but she just agreed so there are no arguements between them.

Yesterday i went to the tony hawk boom boom huck jam and a couple hours before i went she let me go to sport chalet to get a DECK to get tony to sign, but they only had birdhouse boards that are complete.

so i got that, and i also got a helmet.i went with my cousins, but security wouldnt let in boards with wheels so i put it back in the car and my cousin had a spare deck that was crappy. so i got that signed by tony and it was a great day. but when i got home, my dad said i couldnt keep the board because i didnt get it signed and i have to take it back. i didnt yet but i will have to eventually. my mom said if it was her decision i could keep it but its not.

any advice on what to say to be able to keep it?

also im looking for a chart that shows the mmost injuries in a sport, like a bar graph or pie graph saying i.e. 12% of sports related injuriesare in golf, or something like that. anything will help.

thanks

  1. dude grab that think and skate.once its been used the store wont give u a refund so u can keep it,actions speak louder than words man.just skate it don't worry about nothing else ,if dad makes a big deal just tell him is something you want to do tell him to stop trying to cut your fun time.

  2. dude, my mom is a nurse and she wouldn't let me bull ride, and so i just went and bull ride any ways. she was mad at 1st but then realized its not that big of deal and now I'm making a living doing it, i made a lot of money.

  3. Although skateboarding is fill of falls and spills, it is not as dangerous as one might expect.  Skateboarders expect to fall and learn how to fall properly to minimize injury.  Wearing proper safety gear and clothing will also minimize the risk of injury.  95% of skateboarding injuries that require a trip to the emergency room can be prevented by wearing safety equipment and using common sense.

Forbes listed the 10 most dangerous sports in the US, and skateboarding wasn't on it; and over 15 million people in the US skate (Link below). Many of the sports will surprise you, and most your parents wouldn't think twice about letting you play.  An older youth only report put skateboarding behind cycling, basketball, soccer, football and baseball for dangerous sports.

Here's what you do.  Agree with the parents that you will do the following, at least until you get good as skating and your parents get used to it.

Wear pads and a helmet when skating.  Elbow, knee and wrist guards.  Don't compromise on safety gear.  The cheap stuff is c**p.  Get it at a local skate shop, not a discount or toy store. Brands like Pro-Tec, 187, Harbinger, Pro Designed, Triple Eight and S One are good choices. Expect to pay at least $120 for safety equipment.  Add another $60 for hip/tailbone pads.

Only skate in appropriate places like, skateparks or backyard ramps.  If none of these are available, a quiet street or parking lot can be an acceptable alternative.

Never skate alone and tell someone where you are or carry a cell phone.

Learn proper techniques, especially for falling.

    Have fun

Never skate the autographed board.  Put it up on your wall.  Save all the boards you break, especially your first.

  4. Dude, just scratch the graphic a little bit. I don't think they will take it back if it's damaged ; )
